Q: Who is this guy?
A: Zach's a humanitarian, writer, speaker, magician, juggler, and graduate student at Harvard Divinity School. He believes play and laughter can change the world. His international and US projects demonstrate how these can promote diplomatic relationships and enable healing and reconciliation, even in situations of war. He also holds Guinness World Records for "the fastest marathon while juggling three objects" and two unicycle speed records.
Q. Where does he speak and perform?
Zach has been invited to perform for venues ranging from the White House to the only nightclub in Afghanistan. He offers presentations, workshops, lectures and sermons across the United States for a variety of groups, including colleges, interfaith groups, businesses and religious organizations. He has appeared widely in television and radio, including CNN, ESPN, ABC, CBS, MTV, National Public Radio (NPR), Dubai Eye Radio News (United Arab Emirates), Canadian Public Radio (CBC), and more. In print, he has been featured USA Today, Sports Illustrated, The Boston Globe, Runner's World, and in hundreds of papers internationally.
Q. How'd he learn to juggle?
A. Practice. Practice. More practice. While a student at Earlham College, he signed up for a physical education requirement -- Juggling -- and it caught! He traveled around Ireland as a street performer to hone his skills on the street, and after college, while working in public policy, he ran off and joined a circus.
Q. Can he juggle flaming torches?
A. Yes. Hence his short hair.
Q. Can he juggle them on a 6-foot unicycle?
A. Yes. But you first.
Q. Can he juggle me?
A. No, unless you weigh less than 30 pounds.
Q. What else does he do?
A. Bowling balls, toilet plungers, clubs, you-name-it. He also balances large objects on his chin (up to 20 ft in length), escapes from straight jackets, rides speed unicycles at terrifying speeds, levitates objects, makes things disappear, tells stories, and stirs emotion and awe, in any audience -- from an al-Qaeda man in Afghanistan to street kids in Malcolm X Park, Philadelphia.
Q. I have a themed event. Can he incorporate my theme into his talk?
A. Absolutely. It's his fortee. Past examples include: "persistence" for a Fargo, ND, middle school,"life balance" for a World Bank conference, "Venetian street performance" for a high school prom, "the spirituality of juggling" for a conference of social workers, and "magic and meaning" for a church.
Q. What does he charge? Are there any discounts?
A. Contact him directly for rates, discounts, and availability. Non-profit community events do qualify for a reduced rate.
